Artist Statement
This painting is inspired by the quiet magic of Chiltern–Mt Pilot National Park in Victoria. Immersed in its vast silence, I am drawn to the soft, luminous meadows embraced by ancient boulders whose earthy textures feel deeply familiar. I am drawn to deconstructing obvious visual representations, concealing and encoding them within abstract, repetitive patterns. Referencing domestic traditions such as embroidery and weaving, the work explores the comfort and sense of safety that nature provides. The woven surface becomes both a physical and metaphorical act of mending, suggesting connections between landscape, memory, and home. I invite viewers to settle into the familiar rhythms of the painted landscape, where the boundaries between the natural world and lived experience gently dissolve.
